Europe is driving record growth in the international travel market, both as a source of travelers and a destination region.
According to a presentation from IPK International at the ITB Berlin 2018 conference, 2017 was an exceptionally strong year for international travel.
Worldwide, the number of outbound trips increased 6.5 percent, reaching nearly 1.2 billion international trips.
In a particularly noteworthy development, the IPK survey found the impact of terrorism on international travel and terror sensitivity decreased for the first time since the surveys began. Destinations are perceived to be safer than before, according to the survey.
The findings are based on the latest results of IPK’s World Travel Monitor, an annual survey that studies outbound travel behavior across more than 60 countries. The survey is said to cover more than 90 percent of the global outbound demand.
