Marriott's Hip Moxy Brand to be in 40 New Cities by 2020

Marriott International’s playful Moxy Hotels brand will add more than 40 new destinations throughout Europe over the coming three years.

The brand began accelerating its European footprint in 2017 and has more than 50 signed Moxy hotels in the pipeline that are slated to open between now and the end of 2020.

The sharpest growth of the Moxy presence will be seen in such places as Germany and the UK. Moxy will also be making its entry into various key European destinations including France, Portugal and the Netherlands, the company said in a statement.

Moxy, which first debuted in Europe in 2014, is an experiential hotel brand aimed at the next generation of travelers.

Moxy has also been making a name for itself in the U.S. market with notable openings from New York to Minneapolis. In October 2017 Marriott opened Moxy Times Square, a high-style property with an urban camping aesthetic that’s positioned to attract the same modern travelers who often look to Airbnb for accommodations.

The 612-room New York City hotel offers quick Wi-Fi, co-working spaces, foosball, board games and pet-friendly rooms. It also boasts New York’s largest indoor/outdoor hotel rooftop bar. Rooms meanwhile include walk-in rain showers and flat-screen televisions providing access to Netflix and Pandora.

The European Moxy openings meanwhile include Germany, UK, and Scandinavia.

In Germany, Moxy already has nine properties. The company is planning to more than double its portfolio there with another 16 properties due opening by the end of 2019 in such key cities as Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg and Dusseldorf.

The UK is already home to two Moxy properties–Moxy London Excel and Moxy London Stratford. Another five property openings are planned for the country by the end of 2018 alone. The brand ultimately expects to have all four corners of the UK covered with properties, including new hotels in Edinburgh, Glasgow, York and Southhampton.

Moxy also recently opened a property in Scandinavia, the Moxy Oslo X. Additional properties are planned for Denmark, Copenhagen and Norway.

In addition to growth in existing markets, Moxy will debut in a variety of countries over the next three years including the Netherlands (Amsterdam, The Hague); France (Paris, Lille, Biot); Portugal (Lisbon); Poland (Warsaw, Poznan, Katowice and Szczecin); Georgia (Tbilisi), Switzerland (Bern and Lausanne); Ireland (Dublin) and Greece (Patra).
