New Orleans’ revamped airport to debut next year

11.07.2018

Construction is well underway on a new terminal and other upgraded facilities at New Orleans’ Louis Armstrong International Airport, scheduled to open in February 2019.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that construction on the new, 35-gate terminal and a 2,100-car parking garage is about half completed.

The new terminal will have a single, consolidated security checkpoint. Once clear of security, travellers will be able to move freely between the airport’s three concourses – a major improvement from the current airport layout that restricts travellers to a single concourse.

Food courts and performance spaces will be located in the centre of each concourse. Dining options will include such New Orleans favorites as Cafe du Monde, Emeril’s, Midway Pizza, MoPho, the Cure cocktail bar, and Angelo Brocato’s gelateria.

The airport’s existing parking garage will be converting to long-term parking. Uber and Lyft ride-sharing pickups will be permitted curbside at the new terminal, not restricted to the parking facility.

The airport rental-car centre, built in 2011, will remain in its current location.
